Orphan Works Act of 2008

articles, ben roberts — Tags: , — admin @ 12:44 pm

So i have been getting emails about this constantly and want it to bring it to everyone’s attention. Basically is a bill trying to be put through congress that would limit the damages you could receive if someone uses your creation be it photography, illustration, whatever if the user cannot trace the work back to the owner.

Hot Pop Gallery

Hot Pop Gallery

On May 2nd I checked out the new Gallery / Urban Trinket store Hot Pop who was having a show entitled “Just Gettin’ StARTed” currated by graffiti artist Revise CMW from chicago. Former MKE artist Brooks Golden gave me the heads up on this show. I had not heard of Hot Pop prior to this so I was excited when I discovered it was a few blocks from my house.

The walk was definitely worth it! Hot Pop brought back memories of a few shops I’d stumbled upon in Italy a few years ago. It’s very clean with some slick murals by Broken Crow. The Ceilings are high and there are some crazy mod light fixtures, sort of like Design Within Reach if it sold vinyl toys and graff videos. Anyway you can check it out for yourself, time for more about the actual gallery show..

No historical greats, no important New Yorkers, but rather a group of people in their twenties, who are hungry. These artists have spent the last four years working their ass off and have taken their beatings, and are anxious to move into the spotlight in the contemporary art world.
